The Family Guardian is book of wisdom originally written for Kylie's adult children to help them through and deal with life experiences, adversities and trauma we all face in through out our lives.
The book is a treasure trove of the experience of Kylie's life, a journey of three people's lives jammed packed into one. Kylie grew up in hotels in Australia in the 70's and 80's, her parents were publicans who bought and sold hotels for a living. Kylie was thrown into witnessing the under belly of society, from breaking up fights in the bar as a vulnerable teenage girl among a landscape of misogynistic men with sexual advances and harassment, mugging, from bikie gangs, death, drugs, assaults, verbal abuse in era where there was no protection for women nor were women valued. It covers a multitude of experiences from being a single parent, domestic violence, divorce, abandonment, parentified daughter, shame, bullying, scapegoated, growing up in a maladaptive toxic family, anxiety to a women who educated herself as a sole single mother without any support. Kylie made herself into a completely independent woman, a multiskilled and multitalented woman while raring two beautiful well emotionally adapted independent sons. A book of courage and discovering self worth, finding truth in a dark world, love the the real meaning of life, peace and happiness.

When the Church Closed its Doors
There is a pain few speak about.
Not the pain of leaving the church —
but the pain of being erased by it.
When the doors closed, it wasn’t through honest confrontation or biblical clarity. It was through silence. Relationships disappeared. Conversations stopped. A community I once called family withdrew without explanation. Ranks tightened. Narratives formed. Distance became deliberate.
What followed was exile.
I stood up to manipulation.
I confronted dishonesty.
I refused to bow to bullying within a church hierarchy that preferred compliance over truth.
And for that, I was deemed unworthy of their company.
I could not ignore what I saw. I chose to stand for a woman who was under pressure, believing that doing what is right matters more than preserving position.
I am not a woman who avoids confrontation. I do not shrink in the presence of injustice. I have never tolerated bullies. Yet strength does not mean loudness. I am deeply introverted, thoughtful, and measured — but when truth is threatened, I will stand.
That stand cost me everything.
In When the Church Closed Its Doors, Kylie Gardner shares the unfiltered account of spiritual shunning, social isolation, and the psychological toll of being erased by those who once prayed beside her. As accusation intensified and old wounds resurfaced, she faced devastating questions:
Was I the problem?
Had I misjudged everything?
Was I truly unworthy of belonging?
But this is not the story of a victim.
It is the story of a battle.
Behind the silence was a deeper war — one over identity, truth, and spiritual authority. When shame pressed hardest and despair threatened to consume her, Christ intervened with a declaration that silenced every accusation:
It is finished.
Through exile, confrontation, and the stripping away of false belonging, Kylie discovered something unshakeable — freedom from striving, from human approval, and from the fear of being misunderstood.
For anyone who has:
• Refused to submit to manipulation
• Questioned spiritual control
• Stood against bullying in religious systems
• Or been pushed out for refusing to stay silent
This book is a reminder:
The church may close its doors.
But Christ never does.
